Interview Preparation Based on the Position

An interview is an assessment of professional suitability. The employer is examining the relationship between the requirements of the position and the candidate’s experience, competence, judgment and record of performance.

HireRise prepares candidates on that basis.

The work starts with the position itself. We examine the job description, the candidate’s CV, the level of seniority, the organisation and the stage of the selection process. From this information, we establish the areas an interviewer is likely to examine and the evidence the candidate will need to provide.

The preparation therefore reflects the actual demands of the position rather than a standard collection of interview questions.

The Requirements of the Role Determine the Preparation

Different positions require fundamentally different preparation. HireRise takes these distinctions into account.

Project Manager

A Project Manager interviewing for a transformation programme may need to account for delivery failures, competing stakeholders, budget decisions, project recovery and the consequences of decisions made under pressure.

Software Engineer

A Software Engineer may face detailed examination of architecture decisions, technical trade-offs, previous implementations and the reasoning behind particular technical choices.

Sales Director

A Sales Director may need to account for revenue performance, forecasting accuracy, commercial decisions, team performance and previous results.

Graduate Professional

A graduate entering the workforce will face a different level of examination from a senior professional accepting responsibility for a department, programme or business function.

Management & Leadership

Senior professionals may face examination of leadership decisions, accountability, stakeholder management, commercial judgment and strategic responsibility.

Career Changers

Professionals moving between sectors or functions need to establish the relevance of previous experience to the position being pursued — a specific challenge that requires particular preparation.

The Basis of Your Session

Where applicable, preparation may draw upon the following information.

01

Your CV

We examine the experience, achievements, responsibilities, career transitions and claims that may attract questions during the interview.

02

The Job Description

The responsibilities, competencies and selection requirements provide an important indication of what the employer expects from the successful candidate.

03

Your Professional Experience

Relevant examples are identified and examined to establish where your experience provides evidence of competence, judgment, responsibility and results.

04

The Target Position

Seniority, scope of responsibility and the nature of the position influence the depth and type of questioning that can reasonably be expected.

05

The Organisation

Where sufficient information is available, the employer’s business, operating environment and requirements may provide additional context for preparation.

06

Stage of Selection

An initial screening, hiring-manager interview, technical assessment, panel interview and final-stage interview can place different demands on the candidate. The preparation takes account of those differences.

How HireRise Works

01

First Step

Provide the Relevant Information

Submit your CV, job description, target position and details of the interview where available. This gives HireRise the professional context required for the session.

02

Review

Review of the Position

The requirements of the position are considered alongside your professional background. Areas likely to require particular attention can then be identified before or during the session.

03

The Session

Live One-to-One Session

Meet directly with Felix through Zoom or Google Meet. You will work through questions and scenarios relevant to the position, your experience and the stage of the recruitment process. The session requires the candidate to answer questions rather than simply listen to advice.

04

Assessment

Professional Assessment

Responses are examined for relevance, evidence, structure, consistency, professional judgment and communication. Attention is also given to the relationship between what the candidate claims and the evidence provided to support that claim.

05

Further Preparation

Correction and Further Preparation

Weak responses are examined to determine what is missing. Important experience communicated poorly is reconsidered. Claims likely to attract further questioning are examined in greater depth. The candidate leaves with a clear understanding of the areas requiring further preparation before the employer interview.

What Is Assessed During the Session

A credible interview response requires more than information. During a HireRise session, attention may be given to the following.

Understanding the Question

Does the response address what the interviewer is actually asking and the competency or issue being examined?

Relevance

Does the candidate provide information that directly supports suitability for the position?

Evidence

Are professional claims supported by specific examples, responsibilities, decisions and results?

Structure

Can the interviewer follow the response and understand the relationship between the situation, the candidate’s responsibility, the action taken and the result?

Depth

Does the answer demonstrate sufficient knowledge and responsibility for the professional level being pursued?

Consistency

Do the candidate’s responses support the information presented in the CV and elsewhere during the interview?

Professional Judgment

Where the question concerns a decision or difficult situation, can the candidate explain the reasoning behind the action taken?

Follow-Up Questioning

Can the candidate support an initial answer when the interviewer requests further detail or challenges an assumption?

Practice Should Include Questioning and Assessment

Candidates frequently understand their own work so well that missing information in an answer is difficult for them to detect.

The candidate knows the background. The interviewer does not.

An answer that appears complete to the person giving it may leave important questions unanswered for the person receiving it.

Live interview preparation introduces an external professional perspective.

The candidate answers the question. The response is examined. Further questions can then test the strength of the evidence, the candidate’s understanding of the subject and the consistency of the account being presented.

This provides an opportunity to identify weaknesses before the employer conducts the assessment.

Interview Preparation Informed by Recruitment Experience

Felix — HireRise Interview Preparation

HireRise is led by Felix, a recruitment and talent acquisition professional with more than ten years of experience across professional recruitment, including technology recruitment and international hiring environments.

His recruitment experience includes assessing professional profiles, discussing candidate suitability, working with position requirements and supporting recruitment processes across different markets.

HireRise applies this recruitment perspective to interview preparation.

During a session, the focus is placed on the relationship between the candidate’s experience and the position being pursued.

The purpose is neither to provide scripts nor to manufacture answers for candidates to memorise. The purpose is to examine the candidate’s actual experience and establish whether it can withstand the level of questioning reasonably expected during the selection process.

Experience Must Withstand Questioning

Professional experience carries weight when the candidate can explain it accurately and support it under examination.

An interviewer may ask what happened, what responsibility the candidate personally held, why a particular decision was made, what alternatives were considered, what result followed and what the candidate would do differently today.

Each additional question tests the substance behind the original response.

A candidate may possess excellent experience and still present an incomplete account of it. Important achievements may lack context. Responsibilities may be described without evidence of personal contribution. Results may be stated without explaining the decisions that produced them.

HireRise uses the preparation session to examine these areas before the formal interview.

Live. Individual. Position-Specific.

Sessions are conducted individually with Felix. This is a direct professional interaction — not a software tool, not an automated system and not a self-paced online course.

The candidate works through questions relevant to the actual position and receives professional assessment and guidance in return.

Sessions are available through:

Zoom
Google Meet

Each session is conducted one-to-one between the candidate and Felix. There is no group format.
